Victorian inlaid walnut wine table
This Victorian inlaid walnut Maypole wine table was made circa 1870.
It is exceedingly rare and in 45 years of trading I have never seen another.
I can only assume the top depicts revellers using a maypole, or a fairground attraction, but it may have been in celebration of another event in the Victorian period.
This amazing Victorian walnut table would have been made in one of the most prestigious workshops, probably Holland &Sons 1803-1942. Their daybooks are stored at the V&A. These interesting sales records show the high-end client base who flocked to them.
The solid walnut column that is finely caved with the three carved cabriole legs coming off this.
