A very decorative Victorian metal cotton reel holder with all its original painted surface, this has a circular moulded base supporting a painted cherub. There are six metal rods which would hold, in all, twelve cotton reels, each rod is surmounted by a bird figure and can be removed as necessary. The paintwork shows the usual expected signs of age and there is a small chip in the lip at the top, otherwise this highly unusual article is in good strong condition. The pin cushion has been replaced. Sizes: 11 ½ “(42cms) high, 8”(20cms) diameter. Date circa 1880 I have reluctantly decided that after 60 years spent in this marvellous business it is, figuratively speaking, time to hang up my cheque book.
