Victorian Burr Walnut Pop Up Davenport

A Superb Victorian Burr Walnut Pop Up Davenport having a brass galleried pop up top, opening to reveal 3 drawers flanked by pigeonholes with arched fret work, underneath are two secret drawers inlaid with rose wood and satin wood that can be opened by pushing buttons on the back.
The piano top opening to two drawers above a pull out slide with pen compartments, space for 2 ink pots and adjustable tooled leather writing surface, The right hand side drawer has a catch which when released allows the secret stationary compartment to rise on a weighted counterbalance which can been viewed when the left hand panel is opened which is rare, the right hand panel opens to four mahogany drawers with turned handles. The panelled front with well carved supports resting on a concave shaped plinth with turned bun feet and hidden castors.
This superior quality burr walnut Victorian davenport is the best of its type and in first class working condition.
Wonderful colour and patination with the original brass gallery and original casters as can be seen, it is free standing and ready to be put straight into a house.
Davenports of this design are often referred to as Harlequin, Pop up, Piano top, or Jack in the box davenports.
