A super Victorian Davenport desk in burr walnut and dating to c.1860. This example is the most desirable model with a piano-lid and brass galleried ‘jack-in-the-box’ pop-up top housing secret drawers and stationary compartments. Opening the piano-lid reveals a sliding drawer with an adjustable writing slope inset with the original maroon tooled leather, two drawers and an arrangement of pen trays and compartments.

Elegant curved and scrolled legs with acanthus carvings support the writing section and frame the finely figured
walnut panel below. With four drawers to the the right side with turned wooden handles, brass locks and escutcheons and four dummy drawers to the left. All standing on flattened bun feet with original concealed castors. This is an excellent example, veneered on all side with beautifully figured walnut in a rich warm colour and with original polish finish. A key is included which works all the locks.
