Unusual set of four Georgian elm dining chairs
These are a very sweet set of four early dining chairs. They are Georgian and date to around 1800. There is something of the Sheraton style to the backs. What is so unusual about these chairs is that they are made in solid elm. It is very unusual to find dining chairs of this age in elm. I would guess they were made by a country craftsman for an individual commission.
The chairs have square front legs. The back legs are shaped with a chamfer to the inside of the leg. The chairs have drop in seats.
The chairs are in good condition. Joints solid. No sign of damage. Marks as you would expect in period chairs. The elm is rich and well polished.
The covering to the seats is old but as these are drop in seats it would be very easy to tack over a material in keeping with your own colour schemes. I would recommend you do this but the material on at the moment is serviceable.
If you have a small period dining table or breakfast table in mahogany or oak then these chairs will sit around it very well.
Each chair back is 33 inches high and the seats are 18 inches high and 19 inches wide.
