A Thomas Mawkes oak longcase clock with small proportions and with a round painted dial by the famous makers Wilson of Birmingham. Dating from approximately 1785 this 30 hour antique clock is very typical of Derbyshire antique clocks and Thomas Mawkes was producing many similar clocks to this one. This is all oak and and both case and movement are in excellent condition as well as the beautiful round dial and original steel hands.
Mawkes was working in Sadler Gate , Derby in the second half of the 18th century and early 19th century and had originally been apprenticed to John Whitehurst of Derby who was a highly sussesful clock maker.
This attractive cottage style clock is only 77 in tall and suitable for both modern and period homes.
The well made chain driven movement has very recently been cleaned and serviced and the dial has dial has had some minor restoration to bring it back to clean bright condition.
