The Durham Ox Staffordshire Meat Platter
A Staffordshire Pearlware Meat Platter featuring the rare Durham ox series. The platter, which is circa 1820, is printed in underglaze blue with a horse and cart and cattle in a landscape within a foliate border. It is in excellent condition.
The platter is 46 cm (18") wide and 35 cm (13.75") high.
The Durham Ox which became famous in the early 19th century was an early example of what became the Shorthorn breed of cattle. A carriage, drawn by four horses, was specially made to transport him around the country where he was exhibited to the public. All items are sold with a 14 day money back guarantee. In the unlikely event that you are unhappy with your purchase, we will gladly issue a refund (excluding carriage costs). The item must be returned in the same condition as it left us. The refund will be issued on the item's return to our premises.
