Mid 19th century Staffordshire figure group 19th Century Ceramics Staffordshire %%alt5%%
An earlier Staffordshire figure group flatback, the palette and inclusion of bocage points to this being around 1850/60 . It is not a titled model, nor one we have come across before, but quite an interesting model, the proud adult head upheld with the youth slightly bowed head with the parental arm around shoulders. The youth is clutching possibly a wind instrument to the body in a pose that suggests a young person being put forward to play for someone special. These figures were the domain of the middle classes of the time, those not able to buy into the fine porcelain of the wealthy upper class. The figures do however have a charm and are well thought out models in a lot of cases, this is no exception, even in its simplicity and naivety this is a great piece of 19th century ceramic.

Size: 17 cm high by 11 cm wide (unpacked weight 288 gms)

Condition: the structure is in great order, and the decoration is also fine, only the most minor age wear, a couple of spots on the black. The only issue is the rim of the pink and yellow hat, there are two small surface flakes lost.

(Please note we always take the condition into account when valuing and pricing, this item is generally a very good piece, uncommon and therefore valued accordingly).
