Small Vienna Regulator Wall Clock - Schonberger
It is a pleasure to offer a very fine and rare Vienna wall antique clock in lovely original condition and manufactured circa 1860.
This particular has been part of my private collection for approximately 20 years having been sourced from the Eisenbach Clock Fair in Germany in 1998.It is the first time that it has been offered for sale since.
I have collected this particular style of Vienna regulator for 30 years and the few I have seen have been made by Wenzel Schonberger in Vienna
Austrian antique clocks such as this are entirely hand made and finished by time served master clockmaker's and should not be confused with the much cheaper mass produced German antique clocks.
Austrian clocks were only made for the most discerning customers (who could afford them) and took many months to complete individually.
Subsequently they are rare items and I have spent almost 30 years driving all over Europe to source these antique clocks, particularly the finer examples with originality being a paramount requirement.
Unfortunately there are too many people selling modern reproductions to customers.
I offer a full money back guarantee as to the authenticity of my Vienna clocks.I also welcome any expert appraisal whatsoever.
Obviously, any potential clients are very welcome to view the clock prior to purchase (or pay on delivery)to ensure that they are satisfied with their purchase.
As you can see from the photographs this is a very pretty clock which is of small size
.The weight driven movement is of 8 day duration and has dead beat escapement. It strikes the hours and half hours on a coiled gong.It also has smaller winding barrels to assist with the duration. It is of the finest quality and fitted to the case by a latched plate.
The 5 spoked pulley is typically Schonberger as is everything else on this antique clock. Also typical is the dip in the bottom of the case and door in order to give maximum space for the pendulum to swing whilst keeping the case length as small as possible.
The case door and pediment are made of solid walnut which has been carved accordingly. The backboard and base have been veneered in a figured walnut ..All the original finish is present and the patina is perfect. The bottom finial is a hand and original.
Of course these clocks were expensive but he had no problem selling them to discerning clients. The overall condition is outstanding being original and well looked after.
There is ,of course, the odd age related mark as you would expect on any item of this age but the condition is a good as anyone could possibly expect.
The 7 inch one piece dial is in excellent with only a tiny chip on the chapter ring just after 12 oclock .The blued steel hands are exceptionaland the clock functions perfectly having been sericed by a member of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers.
The sides of the case are glazed with original glass as is the front.
The original winding crank is present.
Hopefully the images will show show interested parties all they need to see.
This clock is much nicer in the flesh and looks very impressive on the wall.Prospective buyers are encouraged to view this clock if at at possible
The clock is 39 1/4 inches in length from the very top of the case to the tip of the bottom finial. It is only 9 1/2 inches wide at the door. It is a maximum of 5 3/4 wide and 6 inches deep
.The proportions are perfect and is worthy of gracing the wall of the most discerning collector.
Hopefully the images will show show interested parties all they need to see but prospective buyers are very welcome to view.
This clock is much nicer in the flesh as my photographic skills are very poor.
If the buy it now price is paid in full I will ,deliver the clock free of charge in England ,Wales and the Scottish lowlands and provide a 12 months guarantee.
Should a lesser offer be accepted it will be a trade sale with the clock being sold as described and shipping costs being the responsibility of the buyer.
