Small Georgian Elm Blanket Box Coffer
This lovely antique small blanket box or coffer is constructed from solid elm. It dates from the early part of the nineteenth century and has a pencilled provenance inscription on the top of the candle box lid dated 1822. The box has a hinged lid and is supported on a plinth base. It retains its original candle box with hinged lid. There is no lock or escutcheon present.
Condition: Overall this nice country piece is in usuable condition, but does have some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing, marking and wear to the woodwork as might be expected and the piece is overall a little faded. There are some areas of wood loss in places and the piece is overall a little grubby. The box shows some signs of alteration over the years - the plinth base is a more modern addition. There is no lock or escutcheon present. There are some signs of old woodworm damage - this is not active but has been retreated as a precaution. The metal fixings have some surface rusting.
