Small Beautiful 17th Century Oak Chest of Drawers
A beautiful and very small English oak chest of three drawers c. 1650 in superb original condition, as made, and a rare tiny size at only 32 inches wide and 31.5 inches high. Probably made for a child.
Brasses are all original as are the locks, and original timbers throughout including nailed up backboards and drawer bases. Top boards original also and the whole with a fabulous colour and lovely deep natural sheen from years of use and wax. The handles with soft wear consistent with age.
The handles with snaped fixings and no evidence of earlier or other handles. The escutcheons are original also.
The feet original and continuous with the stiles and with small chips and minor losses. The top is lovely, two plank, the larger of which has an old shrinkage crack, hundreds of years old, completely stable and looks lovely.
Some old worm damage to the inner face of the stiles (inside the chest) long since dead and structurally completely sound. Four of the internal runners have been replaced in the 19th century - as is usual - but some originals remain which is rare.
Beautiful quality and a fabulous colour, the original pegs still extending inside and with its original finish.
Dimensions are:
32 inches wide, 31.5 inches high, 22.5 inches deep.
For metric please multiply by 2.5 I describe and photograph my pieces accurately and with the aim that on arrival each will exceed expectations.
I operate a full refund guarantee and am always happy to give free, honest and friendly advice.
