Small 17th Century Oak and Elm Tavern Table c.1620
A rare and beautiful small oak and elm tavern table, peg jointed throughout and with lovely shaped supports united by a box stretcher. The drawer original also with a thickly hewn oak lining and nailed up bottom. The three boarded weather top with a candle burn to left side of rear board, the dip has been filled with wax a long time ago and we have left this as part of the table’s history.
The table is very solid and heavy. Two of the low stretchers have been replaced in oak a long time ago and two originals remain, all four feet have age related wear and the drawer has lost a sliver at one corner. There are some old worm holes to the drawer lining and frame which are long since dead and small losses marks and bruises consistent with age and use. Original timbers other than the stretchers and with original pegs, the table with a lovely colour and rich patination.
An early and primitive country tavern table of great charm, sturdy and heavy, made by skilled hand in c.1620
Dimensions are:
29 inches wide, 17.5 inches deep and 28 inches high.
For metric please multiply by 2.5 I describe and photograph my pieces accurately and with the aim that on arrival each will exceed expectations.
I operate a full refund guarantee and am always happy to give free, honest and friendly advice.
