Set Of Four French Prie Dieu Dual Prayer Chairs
An attractive set of prie dieu chairs. We date these chairs to the late 19th century.
These church chairs can be turned into a kneeling prayer chair by lifting up the top seat pad, and kneeling on the lower pad and resting or placing bibles on the flat top of the backrest.
The chairs have rush seat pads and horizontal carved spar backrests with the flat top.
The chairs have a height of 34.5" (88cm) with a backrest height of 16" (41cm), an overall depth of 17" (44cm), a seat height of 17" (44cm), a seat width of 15.5" (39cm) and a seat depth of 12.5" (32cm).
These attractive chairs remain in good solid condition with surface marks commensurate with age and usage. They have some minor wear primarily around the feet. One chair has more wear than the others including heavy wear to the top rush seat pad and is a slightly darker colour with some old woodworm holes which have been treated twice to make sure.
These remain a very stylish and elegant set of chairs that are supportive to sit on and will continue to provide rest for many years to come.
