Description:
Here is a fine quality antique set of 6 English Georgian Hepplewhite style camel backed solid walnut kitchen / dining chairs, constructed in the Victorian period, circa 1850, with removable rush seats, in excellent condition. The chairs have been traditionally French polished by hand in our workshop, to a professional standard, therefore, the finish, colour and patination is excellent. It is rare to see a set this style of chairs constructed in solid walnut they are usually made of mahogany. The chairs feature an arched “camel backed” top rail, above a finely executed pierced fretwork “vase shaped” pierced central splat, flanked by vertical rails. Incorporating a drop-in seat design, the seat frames are constructed of wood and rush seat design. The seats can be removed for ease of cleaning. The seats are in excellent and clean condition, with no marks or damage to the rush. The seats are firm but comfortable you do not sink into the seat. The chairs rest on straight block legs to the front, decorated with scribe moulding and sabre legs to the rear. The legs are united by “H” design stretchers for additional sturdiness. Please note, this is a true set of chairs they have not been matched together from smaller sets of similar chairs.
The chairs would look superb in either the kitchen or dining room. They would certainly grace any home and are a great investment as they are extremely functional. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of antique furniture.
Condition Report:
These dining chairs are in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, frames and legs, but nothing significant considering the age of them. The chair joints have been glued and the frames have been traditionally French polished by hand in our workshop, to a professional standard, therefore, the finish, colour and patination is excellent. Incorporating a drop-in seat design, the seat frames are constructed of wood with recently reupholstered new rush material. The seats are therefore in excellent and clean condition, with no damage to the rush. The seats can be removed for ease of cleaning. This is a true set from the day of their construction (they have not been matched together from smaller sets of similar chairs). The chairs are solid in joint they do not wobble and they are ready to use.
