This is an attractive and superb quality antique Regency style Edwardian inlaid solid mahogany, satinwood and leather bow front ladies writing desk, circa 1901 – 1910, made by the renowned cabinet makers and retailer, S & H Jewell of London.

Description:
This is an attractive and superb quality antique Regency style Edwardian inlaid solid mahogany, satinwood and leather bow front ladies writing desk, circa 1901 – 1910, made by the renowned cabinet makers and retailer, S & H Jewell of London. Boasting a bow front design, the top of the table features a new black leather with a gold tool perimeter. Below, there is a bank of four hand dovetailed, oak lined drawers which feature top quality satinwood floral inlay to the drawer fronts, bounded by string inlay. The drawer fronts also feature their original circular brass knobs. The writing table also includes a kneehole, which boasts fan marquetry spandrels to either side. The table stands on elegant tapering legs, all of which are decorated with refined satinwood string inlay. The legs terminate on the original brass square collars and mug castors. This is a single piece desk, with excellent proportions.
The desk boasts a rich brown mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This desk would look superb in a variety of rooms from the home office, drawing room or library. The desk would certainly grace any home or office and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of antique furniture.
Provenance:
S & H Jewell were fine quality cabinet makers, established in London, in 1830. They worked as a family business on their premises at 29-31 Little Queen Street, Holborn, in London, later moving to 26 Parker Street, London, W.C.2. They are recorded as having sold antique furniture to the Arts and Crafts home, Standen House at East Grinstead in Sussex. Aside from constructing their own antique furniture, they also restored earlier antiques and sold them on from their London shop.

Condition Report:
This desk is in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the desk, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The desk has been French polished by hand, to a professional standard, in our workshop. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. The desk has been professionally fitted with a new black and gold tool leather, which is therefore in excellent condition. The hand-dovetailed drawers are constructed of solid oak and boast the original brassware. The drawers close flush to the frame. This is a single piece desk. This desk is solid in joint the desk does not wobble and is ready to use.

Once you have purchased an item, we will contact you be email and/or telephone and provide you with a provisional delivery date, in order for you to confirm if it is suitable for you. Once you have confirmed you can accept delivery on the provisional delivery date, we will book the delivery in with our shippers and it then becomes a confirmed delivery date.

A free 14-day “no quibble” returns policy (from the date you receive the item) is available if you are not happy with this item. We will collect the item free of charge from you (we do not charge a return fee / collection fee). You will be given a full refund as long as the item is returned in the same condition. We will collect returns using our own specialist furniture delivery company. We will not accept returns via a courier service (due to experience of damaged items in transit).
