This is a very good quality antique Regency four tier mahogany whatnot, circa 1820 - 1830. The whatnot features three tiers with the top having a shaped straight galley. The four tiers are separated by mahogany turned supports. The bottom tier features a working hand dovetailed drawer which includes a working lock and original key. The four tapered feet terminate in the original brass socket castors. This whatnot boasts a very rich colour / patination which cannot be replicated without the passage of time.

A what-not is a piece of antique furniture derived from the French étagère, which was exceedingly popular in England in the first three-quarters of the 19th century. It usually consists of slender uprights or pillars, supporting a series of shelves for holding china, ornaments, trifles, or what not, hence the elusive name.
