An elegant barrel or bow backed bookcase with a lovely shape and graduated fixed shelving, dating to the early 19th century Regency period.

– 5 fixed shelves, plus the base, graduated in size to fit book heights of 35 cm at the bottom through to 17 cm at the top.
– Curved barrel or bow back shape.
– Attractive ebonised stringing decoration down the side columns.
– Plinth base and shallow cornice top.
– Planked fabric covered back which would once have been covered with painted paper.

A wonderful bookcase which will look good in any library, study or living room, but will be particularly suitable for a recessed alcove.

In good age related condition, this is a sturdy piece with only the minor marks expected from long use. The backing fabric would once have been completed covered with paper painted to resemble the wood, but this only remains on part of the left side.
