Rare Italian Verge Bracket Clock
Antique bracket antique clocks from the second part of the 18th Century are particularly rare items and are generally the domain of the finest English makers .
? Clocks of this age by Continental makers are very uncommon. This antique clock was made by Pelegrino Amorotti a Roma? who is recognised as being one of the finest Italian makers and is work is so highly prized that his clocks grace several important museums in the country
? Clocks of this very great age have inevitably has various repairs , restorations and alterations , however , this clock is in the most remarkable complete and genuine condition throughout.Even the original winding key is present.
? In fact the owner of Overton Clocks of Chesterfield who restored the movement was amazed it its originality and comment on the remains of blueing on the steel work.
? The movement using the six hour system which was common at the that time. It has Grande Sonnierre striking on two bells for the quarters and strikes the hours on their home. The clock strikes from one to six as normal but at 7o'clock the sequence starts again at one and carries on until 12 o'clock where it strikes 6 times. The alarm facility is complete and is wound at just past one o'clock with the setting disc in the centre.
? There two train spring driven movement has verge escapement with mock pendulum aperture and has a duration of 24 hours (although the going train runs a little longer). As can be seen in the photographs it is is of excellent quality and in perfect working order.
? The impressive Rosewood veneered case is in exceptional condition having been professionally restored. It is adorned by ormlou castings with glazed sides. It is much nicer in the flesh than my photographs depict and I urge prospective buyers to view the clock if at all possible.
? The clock is 25 1/2 inches tall (handle up) , 15 1/2 inches wide and 9 1/2 inches deep
