This is a rare Georgian period pinewood sea chest with bags of character dating from the early 19th century, circa 1820. The chest has fabulous hand painted maritime scenes of fully rigged sailing vessels, leaving port, out in the artic and in full whaling action. There are also hand painted coats of arms to either end. This is in good sound condition with all the paint in excellent order. The chest has a candle box fitted to the interior and it’s original hand forged iron hinges in good order. It has two fine large solid bronze handles fitted to the ends that are later 19th century, probably from a pair of large shop doors. These look great and really suit the character of the box.
A rare and very striking piece with the bold yellow really catching the eye.
The chest measures 64 cms x 40 cms x 32 cms high.
