Pair Terracotta Chinese Figure Lamps & Silk Shades
We are delighted to offer this stunning and very unusual pair of Terracotta Chinese Figurine Table Lamps, in the style of the Tang dynasty, possibly an Emperor and Empress, with new Silk Shades from the makers of the Downton Abbey, Mr. Selfridge etc. lampshades.
The bases are in terracotta, one being male and the other female and are partially glazed and part matt. The male has a long beard and moustache, is wearing long robes, with an ornate split sash and drooping sleeves. He has a headdress with a tall central crown and is carrying what appears to be a type of horn of plenty or cornucopia.
The female figure is slightly shorter and is barefoot. She is also wearing a tall headdress but hers has two 'tails' falling down to her shoulders. She is holding something in the palm of her right hand, which we cannot identify.
Both figures are glazed in yellow ochre and green and stand on square bases.
The new, bespoke, silk shades are made of gold pleated silk, with a green silk crown, gold braid, and gold fringe with amber beads overlaying the fringe. They also have gold lining.
The lamps have been newly rewired in antique gold coloured braided flex, with inline switches, new plugs and shade carriers. As with all electrical items, it is recommended that they be checked by a qualified electrician before use.
Height of male figure to top of shade: 33" - 83.8cm
Height of female figure to top of shade: 32" - 81.25cm
Max. base of male figure: 6" - 15.25cm
Max. base of female figure: 5 3/4" - 14.6cm
Diameter of shade: 14 1/2" - 36.85cm
Material: Terracotta
Condition: Very good, consistent with age. The only damage other than tiny nibbles which is common with terracotta, is that the right arm of the female figure has been restored. The shades are new.
