We are very pleased to offer for sale this lovely and very unusual pair of Ormolu Mercherub table lamps and shades from the makers of the Downton Abbey, Mr. Selfridge etc., lampshades. The Mercherubs, which are half putti and have crossed, split tails, are sitting on rectangular stepped plinths of faux marble. They are holding what appears to be strands of seaweed over their heads.

Mercherubs appear on carving in some churches in Europe. There are some pictures available on google.

The shades have a gold and terracotta brocade crown, a gold sateen body, gold fringe with three strands of gold and champagne beads on the points and are finished with a complementary gold and terracotta braid.

The lamps have been newly rewired with antique gold fabric covered twisted flex, and have new lampholder and plug. It is recommended that all electrical items be checked by an electrician before use.

Overall height to top of shade: 16 3/4" - 42.5cm

Height to base of lampholder: 9" - 22.85cm

Width of base: 4 3/4" - 12cm

Depth of base: 4 3/8" - 11.1cm

Diameter of shade: 7 1/4" - 18.4cm

Condition: Very good. There is an old and very stable repair to the back of one of the bases of the lamps, which can only be felt by touch.
