Pair of Small Carved Benches c.1880
Unusual pair of small Italian carved walnut benches or hall seats c.1880. Just 33½” wide. Elaborately shaped and carved backrests between bobbin turned uprights with round pommel tops. Slim arms on matching supports over a board seat with carved front edge. Bobbin turned front legs joined with a deep front stretcher with carved decoration repeated from the backrest. Straight side stretchers for extra strength. Interesting wax seal on the underside of one bench for Presidenza Accademia di Belle Arti. Missing a few of the carved palmate shaped decorations from the bottom edge of the backrest and stretcher on one of the benches. Otherwise very good colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
