Pair of 19th Century Gilt Bronze Cherub Wall Lights

A quality pair of French Gilt Bronze wall lights cast in the form of Bronze Cherubs playing gilded trumpets from a scrolled acanthus having twin foliate scrolled candle branches surmounted by vase-shaped nozzles above gadrooned circular drip-pans, the branches set upon elaborate foliate-wrapped scrolls whilst the base is adorned with trophies of arrows set in a quiver crossed with flaming torch.
Re-wired & Pat Tested ready for instalation.
Height 44 cm from the cherubs head to the base 60cm height including the bulb x width 27 cm
Late 19th Century, after a Design by Jean Hauré for Château de St. Cloud. The design for these wall lights, is based on the 18th century model by the maître-fondeur ‘Jean Hauré’, cast by ‘Forestier’ and chased by ‘Thomire’ for the Château de St. Cloud. In their book ‘Vergoldete Bronzen’, Hans Ottomeyer and Peter Pröschel note that this model of appliqué can be ascribed to Jean Hauré who delivered near identical works to the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne in 1787. Elsewhere it is noted that models of this design were cast by Forestier (either Pierre-Auguste Forestier (1755-1835) maître-fondeur-ciseleur or his brother Étienne-Jean Forestier) and chased by the Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843) for the Château de Saint-Cloud.
