Pair of 19th C. Brass Slide Ejector Candlesticks
This is a good quality pair of late 19th Century Brass Slide Ejector Candlesticks. The candlesticks have circular pans with domed centres from which the cylindrical candle holders rise. The slide ejectors are operated by a screw on the side which when loosened can adjust the height of the candle and then tightened to hold that position.
Slide Ejector Candlesticks first appeared in the mid-17th century and waxed and waned in popularity through the 18th century. They reappeared as part of the Georgian Revival in the late 19th century and this pair date from around the 1870s to 1890s. As is usually the case with brass candlesticks, there is no makers' mark to identify the manufacturer.
Condition is very good with just the superficial wear and tear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Both slide ejectors are in working order with the screws loosening and tightening without difficulty. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The candlesticks stand 18cm / 7.1ins high and are 12.5cm / 4.9ins in diameter across the pans. The pair together weigh in at 1,098g / 38.7oz.
