Pair French Ormolu Sphinx Wall Appliques
We are pleased to offer for sale this stunning pair of Egyptian Revival French Ormolu twin arm Wall Appliques with Sphinx surmount.
According to mythology, a sphinx has the head of a man or woman, is winged, and has the body of a lion.
The Spinx is mounted on a rectangular backplate with foliate decoration, with a foliate finial below. There is an additional decoration scroll above each arm, ending in a rosette.
These appliques have previously been wired for electricity, but we are leaving it up to the buyer to decide whether they would prefer them as candle sconces, or whether they would like them to be electrified, which could easily be achieved using french candles.
