Painted Antique Bow Fronted Chest of Drawers

A pine, bow fronted two over two chest of drawers circa 1840.
This versatile piece of antique furniture has been restored in our own workshop. The wax finish has been removed and replaced with a multi tonal lacquer finish that takes its inspiration from traditional designs of the period. Painted panels with highlights and shading were popular before the fashion for stripping and waxing developed. We thought it would be interesting to replace this type of colouring and patterns and are exceptionally pleased with the result.
Distressing and waxing of the blue and grey topcoats has revealed the under colours and produced a time worn look.
Please don't confuse our restored furniture with hand painted pieces. We select each item for its design merits and refinish with spray applied coloured lacquers before being hand finished with coloured waxes. We never use brush applied paints. All of the works are completed by a french polisher.
