Marie Antoinettes writing table by Holland & sons
Important Louis XV1 style writing table[BureauPlat] Exhibition Quality, firmly attributed to Holland & sons.
The Earl of Sefton at Croxteth hall, commissioned Holland&sons
circa 1860 to make Marie Antoinettes writing table [ Bureau Plat] to the exact dimensions, also as the original using Amaranth veneer, the same quality chased and gilt bronze mounts, the 4 gilt bronze plaques with the same detail with Cherubs playing musical instruments on the front & back, and Cherubs with flambe torch and lyre on each side,
the same octagonal tapering legs with the same quality gilt bronze mounts.
The only difference between the two antique tables,Marie Antoinettes table have key escutcheons cut through the gilt chased panels on the three drawers, Holland & sons made the 3 drawers with buttons underneath to press and the drawers shoot out, pushed back and click when closed , quality oak-lined drawers, and fine dovetails.
The top with inset green leather, Amaranth veneer, with quality gilt bronze edge.
This table quality is also worthy of Royalty.
Holland & Sons made other Louis XV1 style pieces of antique furniture for the Earl of Sefton, and Holland & Sons made furniture for Queen Victoria, which are now in Buckingham Palace & Sandringham.
