Very Rare Exceptional Inlaid Mahogany Antique Georgian 18th Century Longcase Grandfather Clock By James Richards Liverpool Featuring An Alarm And Ferguson Tidal Dial In Stunning Original Condition.
The Beautiful Case Is Veneered in Best Quality Flame Mahogany With Shell Inlay,Canted Base Corners,Infilled Swan Neck Pediment And A Distinct Liverpool Feature,Double Columns.
The 13 ins Dial Features—
A Superbly Painted Moon Dial In The Arch Above Which A Motto Reads "On Times Uncertain Date Eternal Hours Depend"
A Calendar Dial And A Seconds Dial With A Rare Brass Sweeping Second Hand .
A Rising/Falling Tidal Automata Dial Which Shows The High And Low Tides At Liverpool Dock Indicated By The Sea Level Rising And Falling Over A Twelve Hour Period {Known As A Ferguson Tidal Dial} And Very Rare Indeed.
There Is Also An Alarm Feature On This Clock Set By A Small Silver Disc In The Dial Centre.
The 8 Day Movement Is Controlled By A Dead Beat Escapement.
The Brass Centre Of The Silvered Dial Is Engraved “Hatched Style”Decorated With With Sea Serpents. Typical Of Liverpool Dials Of The Period.
Engraved on the Dial “James Richards Liverpool “(J Richards is recorded in Lancaster 1798 which is probably the same man)
