We are offering for sale this rather beautiful late Victorian Onyx & Ormolu Table Lamp, converted in the past from an oil lamp, together with its new embroidered silk shade from the makers of the Downton Abbey, Mr. Selfridge etc. TV series lampshades.

The base is made of very pale onyx in an urn shape, held up by three curving ormolu legs, terminating in cloven hoof feet. Above the hooves, there is a foliate scroll and each leg is topped by a classical female head, with swags emanating from her hair, which drape from one to the next. The onyx urn is topped by an ornate ormolu circular cap and above this is a cream painted metal candle tube.

The shade is in the 'Vienna' style in a warm chocolate silk, embroidered with leaves and amber flowers. It has a soft gold fringe overlaid with gold and amber beads and has matching gold braid.

The lamp has been completely rewired with antique gold coloured twisted braided flex and has all new fittings, including a safer switched lampholder. It comes compete with a new shade carrier. As with all electrical items it is recommended that it be checked by a qualified electrician before use.

Condition: Very good. There is a tiny nibble on the rim of the onyx, otherwise there is no damage and the ormolu is in near perfect condition. The shade is new.
