Bedil lapis . More commonly known as a lantaka .This canon originated In Brunei “Borneo “ the name denotes the style of canon. This one would have been used in conjunction with up to ten or more each side of a Dayak war prahu “in effect pirates “ some of these prahu were huge with hundreds of men and thought nothing of taking on the British navy this gun probably dates from around the late 18 century but very probably came back to our shores in 1840-60 when a great many were captured and shipped back to England during a prolonged war by the Royal Navy and the east India co led by James Brook to subdue the pirates of Sarawak and Brunei. A very interesting and historical weapon. Mounted on a very heavy hardwood block of some considerable age.
