Late 17th Century Oak Geometric Chest of Drawers

A fine late 17th century chest of drawers constructed in solid oak, with characteristic geometric mouldings and a richly matured patina with a deep honey tone.
The carcass construction is entirely consistent with the period, featuring a single wide oak top, framed and panelled sides, and rough-sawn backboards of broad planks, all hand-worked with visible tool marks. The drawer fronts display bold rectilinear and lozenge-form applied mouldings, a defining feature of English oak furniture from the last quarter of the 17th century.
The chest stands on later bracket feet, likely added in the 18th century, as was common for chests of this type. These have aged and patinated alongside the carcass, providing stability while retaining a sympathetic appearance. The brass pear-drop handles and pierced escutcheons are also slightly later replacements, themselves of good age and entirely appropriate to the piece.
Presented in very good antique condition, with rich colour, natural surface wear and the warm patina expected of a chest over 300 years old. All drawers run smoothly, structurally sound, clean and ready to place in the home.
English, circa 1680.
