This is a large antique pedestal desk. An English, stout oak writing desk with Gothic revival taste, dating to the Victorian period, circa 1870.

Wonderfully imposing, substantial desk - ideal for the avid writer or home office
Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order
English oak stocks with stout proportion shows fine grain interest
Decades of country house placement giving a sun faded finish

Wide top with comfortable rolled edge presents a claret red rexine skiver of generous size
Two wide drawers set within the leading edge sit neatly between decorative shoulders
Each drawer dressed with an ornate drop handle over an inset lock — keys absent
Prominent pilasters frame each pedestal, with fluted finish and Corinthian capitals

Attractive cabinet doors accentuated with chequer board field panels and brass lock escutcheons
Each door crafted from impressively thick stocks, in keeping with the revival taste
Three documents trays sit within the left hand pedestal, the right-hand with a single shelf
Standing upon eight block feet with squat bun toes

This is a superb antique pedestal desk, with delightful Gothic overtones and excellent craftsmanship. Gracefully aged by the sun a testament to its lasting service as a useful, eye-catching desk. Solid joints and construction, delivered waxed, polished and ready for the home or office.
