This is a very grand French late 19th century painted daybed and of a great size too, being considerably larger than the average "single" size.
Helen kindly agreed to to sit on the bed to help give a sense of its proportions!
Certainly the proportions and also the quality of this bed suggest it was made for a very smart home! Possibly used in a salon as a "daybed" but also works very well as a full time bed too.
The frame is beautifully carved in the Louis xv style and is still in its original painted finish.
It has been recently upholstered and finished with brass studs, along with having the mattress and mattress cover, also the pair of bolster cushions.
The whole frame dismantles, so it is an easy bed to move / deliver. The mattress is in very good condition and has barely been used...previously, since its upholstery this was used as a "daybed" in a living room setting rather than a bedroom, so it has been sat on rather than slept on.
