Large 17th Century Oak Mule Chest Coffer

This is a lovely old piece, and is in remarkably good condition for its age, unusually it has two drawers at the bottom rather than one, the front of the coffer has 3 Fielded panels over the drawers
Inside the chest there is a candle box with a lid and two very unusual internal locking mechanisms to the drawers, there is a carved piece that slides down the inside of the front of the box and engages into the drawers to prevent its opening
The hinges too are made in wood, one has been replaced a long time in the past otherwise the coffer is original and in good condition for its years, there minor dings and a few use marks on the top but they blend in well
The coffer is 49” long, 23” deep and 34” high
