Japanese Meiji Era Bronze Tsuba, Inshu-Suruga

Japanese Meiji Period (1868-1912) Bronze and Mixed Metals Tsuba.
Made by and signed (see photos) by Inshu-Suruga, for Ikeda-Han (located in Surusa, Bizen and Inba).
The tsuba depicts a three legged toad (custodian of the elixir of the immortality) and a moon on one side and a three legged toad and a man on the other. The toad's three legs represent three phases of the moon and the relationship between heaven and earth. Altogether a symbol of prosperity, wealth and good fortune.
Approx. size: 7.8cm x 8cm x 0.8cm
Weight: 178g
Wonderful detail, great patina.
Excellent, undamaged condition (minimal wear commensurate with age).
