Japanese Ikebana Vase Siver Inlaid Bronze Meiji
This is a stunning Japanese vase in bronze inlaid with silver which dates from the 19th century. Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arranging. Ikebena dates back to around the 6th century when Buddhism came to Japan and it evolved from the Buddhist practice of offering flowers to the spirits of the dead. Ikebana has many styles and vases vary a lot. This particular 19th century vase is very striking, measuring 27 cms high. It has a removeable shallow flat dish to the top (30cms diameter) which can be lifted out, so giving greater versatility to the designs which could be used. It is bronze which is skilfully inlaid with solid silver. Apart from a couple of small knocks to the body of the vase near the bottom ( see photo) it is in very good order and would make a very good statement piece for a side table or console table.
