Condition Report:
This is a fine quality antique Irish Georgian chest on chest, constructed of solid oak, boasting a stunning Secretaire desk interior, in the Chippendale design, circa 1780, in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks to the cornice, leading edges, frame, sides, drawer bottoms, and writing surface, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The oak tallboy chest has been cleaned and traditionally French polished by hand in our workshop, to a professional standard, therefore, the finish, colour and patination is of a high standard. The original oak lined drawers are constructed with quality hand dovetail joints, around a moulded drawer frame. The drawer fronts are decorated with later top-quality brass swan neck handles and fretwork backplates. The drawers close flush to the frame. They also retain their original working locks, with working key to some of the drawers. The top four drawers were not designed with locks. The secretaire drawer and drawers to the lower section retain the original lever locks (with key). The secretaire desk compartment pulls out smoothly and is secured by red cord. The highboy chest stands on its original bracket feet and incorporates the original backboards. It is well constructed, solid in joint, does not wobble and is ready to be used.
