Impressive flame Mahogany 8 day longcase clock
Very impressive top quality George III style flame mahogany 8 day longcase clock. Made around 1880 - 1890 by one of the top cabinet making firms of the day, possibly Gillows.
The wonderful elegant case has been made from the very best of mahogany. The long door and base have been veneered in mirror image flame mahogany. Quarter reeded columns with satinwood capitals. The base with all the original ogee bracket feet. The back board of the case is oak which is a good sign of quality.
The hood with reeded columns and great shape top with original brass spire in the centre. The panels at the top are imitating fretted panels but are in fact painted (gilded) on glass.
The movement and dial are all original and date from the late 19th century in exact keeping with the case. The dial is beautifully engraved with all the original hands and it has a strike silent feature. The antique clock does not appear to be named anywhere that I can see.
Basically this is one of the nicest late 19th century antique clocks I have seen, it is so good it looks to most people to be 18th century.
SIZES 98" high overall. 20" wide
