Georgian Mahogany Kneehole Campaign Desk

We have for sale an unusual, handsome and very usefully sized Georgian solid mahogany campaign desk dating to around 1780.
This attractive and very usable Georgian mahogany campaign desk is unlike most other campaign desks in that it comprises of a small and very well built solid mahogany kneehole desk on bracket feet fitted with a long single upper drawer over a single smaller hidden drawer and three graduated drawers on either side, all around a central cupboard with two shelves. The desk drawers and cupboard are fitted with lever locks, with the lock to the top drawer carrying the British Government Crown over VR (Victorian Royal cypher mark). The top and side drawers are also fitted with good brass handles and each side of the desk is fitted with a large fold out brass handle designed to allow easy transport. All of the drawers are oak lined and the desk retains its original oak back. When carried the desk is very well balanced on the handles. That the desk is fitted with a Victorian military lock suggests that it was converted to a campaign desk during the Victorian period.
The desk is 29.5 inches (75cm) high, 32.5 inches (82cm) wide, 19 inches (48.3cm) deep, and is in a remarkably good decorative and functional condition bearing in mind it is has probably been a very well traveled piece of antique furniture. However, the drawer handles are probably later replacements and the top drawer base has a couple of age related cracks. This desk is perfect for any sized home office and provides loads of storage space in the drawers and central cupboard.
