Georgian Country Oak Dough Bin Box
This antique Georgian dough bin dates from the second half of the eighteenth century. It is constructed from solid oak. It has tapering sides and a hinged lift-up lid with nice blacksmith-made hinges. There is a fixed divider inside. It is supported on turned legs with square stretchers in between. The piece retains a lock and escutcheon (which are probably Victorian replacements), but please note that no key is present. It would make a nice blanket box or toy box.
Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected and the piece is overall a little faded. There are some signs of old restoration and repair, including some strengthening braces to the inside. There are some signs of old woodworm, mainly to the back panel - this is not active but has been retreated as a precaution. There is a wood shrinkage split to the top. As is mentioned above the lock and escutcheon are old replacements and no key is present.
The approx. measurements are as follows:
Overall - 85cm high, 122.5cm wide, 47.5cm deep (to maximums). Further images are available. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. Viewing is welcome, but please contact us before travelling as we are only open by appointment.
We can arrange delivery of both smaller items and furniture - please contact us for details and a quote. Customers are also welcome to use their own couriers if preferred.
Payment can be made by PayPal, bank transfer, cheque [UK only], and cash on collection.
