Description:
Here is a good quality antique oak dresser base, circa 1760 - 1780 (George III period) originating from the border area between Shropshire, Cheshire & Staffordshire, England, in good clean condition with excellent proportions. The dresser boasts great craftsmanship, colour and patination and measures 6ft 5⅜” wide. The two-piece top features an elegant reverse moulding with a simple gallery up-stand at the back. Lovely medullary rays are also prominent in the oak top. The dresser consists of three large cock-beaded drawers which feature very good quality old replacement brass swan neck handles and escutcheons (possibly Victorian), all of which are in keeping with the period and extremely good quality. The two large outer drawers feature sham (dummy) lock escutcheons, with the central drawer being the only drawer that has the original working lock (with key). The drawers are oak lined and hand-dovetailed. The dresser boasts a simple shaped apron, with shaped ears flanking the legs with a central drop down feature. The dresser stands on pronounced cabriole legs and pad feet to the front and rear. It is an unusual design to see cabriole legs on both the front and rear of dressers of this period (this denotes the more refined quality of this particular piece). The back of the dresser retains its original pine backboards. The dresser frame has been constructed with the traditional peg and joined construction method.

The dresser features a superb rich golden oak brown colour. It has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

The dresser would look superb in any hallway, kitchen or dining room. This item would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is extremely functional. So don't miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of antique furniture.

Dimensions:
Height = 83.8cm or 33” or 2ft 9”
Width (Legs) = 196.5cm or 77⅜” or 6ft 5⅜”
Depth (legs) = 42.5cm or 16¾ or 1ft 4¾”

Condition Report:
This dresser is in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks to the top and leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The brass drawer handles and escutcheons are old replacements (possibly Victorian), but they are in keeping with the period and extremely good quality. The two larger outer drawers feature the original working locks and a working key the central drawer has a sham lock. The carcass is solid in joint with no loose movements. As the dresser boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic mellow colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
