George III Mahogany Tilt-top Pedistal Tea Table
GEORGE III DARK MAHOGANY TILT-TOP ROUND PEDISTAL TEA TABLE 35 INCH DIAMETER C1760 EXTREMELY WELL WORN & FULL OF CHARACTOR WITH OLD REPAIRS UNDERSIDE.
A George III mahogany tilt-top round tea table with tripod legs and pad feet, having a turned central column support.
This example is far from being the finest of antique tables,as it has had a very hard life, but survives with all the old metal plated repairs to the underside of the lower legs.
The main circular top has naturally occuring shrinkage split which have been filled back in Victorian times, and although the top has alot of distress, the colour and heavily waxed finish provide a patina and charmful charactor that speaks to you.
I dispite the many repairs, felt this table was still a deserving piece to find space for within my old 17th century period home.
It must be noted that the flash photography rather gives the impression of a lighter colour of mahogany, when in fact it is a fair bit darker, still having a fabulous patina and depth of glaze hard to reproduce.
There is a lovely squirling large knot of wood towards the middle of the table top, which again looks wonderful re the texture and grain.
CONDITION
An honest condition report has been written, but in fact hardly any of the tiny marks or blemishes are visable on inspection and to the naked eye.
The photography and camera flash has made the piece look rather tired, but in fact, there's still life left in this nice piece of early Georgian antique furniture.
DATE
Estimated to be early Georgian period and dates to around circa 1760.
VIEWING
Viewing is encouraged to appreciate this lovely table and to see for yourself the overall condition IS NOT TOO BAD.
