French Burr Walnut Marble Top Commode
An unusual French marble top commode in burr walnut in the Louis Philippe style with chamfered corners decorated with carved scrolls and raised mouldings, standing on further raised and moulded feet…
Circa 1860 and a wonderful rich colour with a mellow beeswax glow.
The commode chest of drawers offers a total of five drawers, four of which have working locks and there is a hidden drawer to the plinth.
The original shaped and moulded edge marble top makes this a really practical piece of antique furniture, so you can place a big vase or lamps etc without the fear of scratching. The charcoal grey and white veined marble contrast with the rich burr walnut, as do the solid brass drop handles too.
Impressive piece of antique French furniture, great storage but is super decorative too.
Measuring:
36 3/4 inches or 93.5 cm high
52 inches or 132 cm maximum width
24 inches or 61 cm deep Based in Uppingham, Rutland…having been in the business for 25 years focusing on mostly French and English decorative antiques and interiors from the 18th to the early 20th century, hopefully a collection you will enjoy browsing and hopefully re home some of my finds!
Viewing here in Uppingham is very welcome in my spacious barn studio but also I have a showroom based within the Uppingham Antiques Centre, which is well worth a visit and have a good lunch in town too!
