Fine Japanese Porcelain Yoshidaya Enamel Chargers
A Stunning Close Pair of Antique Japanese Porcelain Charger Dishes.
Wonderful examples, rarely seen like this, and dating to around the middle of the 19th century.
Known as Yoshidaya - a revival piece - the overall style, design and method of execution all very redolent of the earlier and much celebrated Ko-Kutani wares.
The quality of the base drawing - in black - is beautifully done and spontaneous, with delicious fat, overglaze famille verte enamel infill, all over an ivory-coloured ground.
The large central field depicting sprouting foliage and flowers highlighted with an intense blue, with a stylised bird in flight to the top right, and all bordered with a blue enamel 'key' type motif. The cavetto with a continuous scrolling lotus motif, interspersed with gilded lotus heads. The outer rim with inward pointing stiff lappets.
The undersides are almost as nice, with three trailing floral sprays, deftly painted and with alternating blue and aubergine coloured flower heads.
The circular foot unglazed and containing with a central Fuku mark, as clearly shown.
To sum up, a pair of highly impressive and large antique Japanese Yoshidaya charger dishes that look just wonderful on display, as shown.
Will be packed to the highest standard to ensure safe delivery.
Dimensions -
Approx 35.5 cms diameter
Condition -
Both are in superb condition for age. Very slight difference in base tone and profile shape, but it is obvious they are from the same kiln / firing. No post-manufacturing chips or cracks. Both ring brightly and cleanly when tapped. Very minor surface wear only - slight abrasion to enamel and gilding in places (see close up shots).
You will be hard-pushed to find a cleaner, more presentable pair, than these. They are just stunning!
