This is a very elegant and neatly proportioned French abattant bureau dating from around 1900. The fine quality solid rosewood abattant is beautifully inlaid throughout with engraved gilt bronze. The cabinet has classical gilt bronze ormolu mounts to the corners and solid bronze mouldings around the base and upper marble section. The cabinet is immensely practical with a fall front revealing a fitted interior and three oak lined drawers below and one above. This is in excellent condition throughout, with original key, the top drawer being double locking. This was retailed by H. Vieux of Paris and bears their stamp to the reverse. The proportions of the abattant are very pleasing measuring 130 cms high 68 cms wide by 36 cms deep.
