This is a stunning Early 20th Century (Meiji Period) Japanese lacquered hardwood plant or vase stand in the Art Nouveau style. Its frieze and legs are carved with iris flowers and leaves in high relief, and are a tour de force of wood carving. The top is plain with the exception of a Greek-key carved border. The cabriole legs end in scroll feet and there is a lower circular shelf with a simple carved design.

This stand with its wide diameter top and stable construction could also be used as a side table for a lamp or to display a large oriental vase or bowl.

Condition: The stand is in excellent antique condition with just slight age-appropriate wear.
