Exceptional George II Padauk Centre Table c. 1750

An amazing centre table, George II, made in solid Padauk and extremely robust and heavy.
The colour and patina are fantastic, the tapered legs united by very fine ring turned stretchers with central reserve and terminating in carved claw and ball feet inset with beautiful solid brass casters.
The drawer oak lined retaining much of its original hand coloured paper lining and with a sliding lid over a pen drawer and ink well.
Original handle, lock and a working key.
This table was made in around c. 1750 and is of a refinement and quality only seen in the work of a small number of mid 18th century cabinet makers. Thomas Chippendale Snr worked with Cuban Mahogany and Padauk and certainly the quality of construction, understanding of the timber and beautifully finish in every detail here is every bit Chippendale quality.
This table is one of the finest pieces of furniture ever to come to our showroom and you will never see another in this wonderfully balanced and exciting form.
The timber of such density and beauty, from a tree which was growing in the 14th century, felled in the early 18th century and left to dry for decades before being used to create this exceptional table.
With provenance, in exceptional original condition.
A magnificent piece of English George II furniture.
Dimensions are:
24 inches wide when leaves are closed, 24 inches deep and 29 inches high.
When leaves are open the table is 41.5 inches wide.
For metric please multiply by 2.5 I describe and photograph my pieces accurately and with the aim that on arrival each will exceed expectations.
I operate a full refund guarantee and am always happy to give free, honest and friendly advice.
