Description:
This is a superb quality antique English late Regency / William IV mahogany upholstered double scroll end sofa couch, circa 1830, in excellent condition. At this time, England was importing the best quality mahogany from its colonies. The frame and turned tapering legs are constructed of solid mahogany terminating on its original brass socket castors. The frame boasts attractive up-swept scroll end arms, which are decorated with scroll carvings. The sweeping top rail is adorned with a central scroll & feather shaped pediment, flanked by a scroll shaped frame at the end of each corner of the sofa. Floral carved cartouches can be seen at the top of the turned tapering legs. The chaise has been newly upholstered in a top quality silk-based fabric, with a diamond pattern, in coffee and cream colours, finished with a fine duck egg blue spot structure, complete with new matching braiding. The sofa retains its original detachable horsehair filled swab cushion and is decorated with two bolster cushions at each end. The seat frame has been re-webbed in the traditional manner. Therefore the seat is extremely comfortable to sit on, without sinking into the seat. The couch is solid in joint and ready to use.
This item would look great in the living room, dining room or hallway of any large house. This item would compliment any home so don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely unique piece of antique furniture.
The couch features a rich mid brown mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
