An English cutlass or hunting hangar. The blade clearly marked JOHN GILL . I think this is more cutlass than hanger thick heavy straight blade with a brass shell guard and knuckle bow and pommel plain wood grip “ large split “ it has the feel of a fighting sword with a fairly short blade 68 cm . The hilt solid the blade firm in the grip . The grip some type of tight grained wood apple cherry? The grip is straight and round similar to a figure of eight 1740-50
