Edwards & Roberts Victorian Marquetry Wardrobe
A stunning Edwards & Roberts Sheraton Revival inlaid mahogany breakfront wardrobe dating to the early Victorian period. Profusely decorated with fine quality ribbon tied floral marquetry and penwork in veneers including satinwood and harewood, and with kingwood crossbanding & box stringing. The swan neck pediment and cornice also crossbanded with kingwood and inlaid with floral motifs and faux fluting. With raised arched panels to the four doors which open to reveal a linen press fitted interior with the original wooden hanging pegs, drawers and sliding trays (which could be removed to give three larger hanging areas) and all standing on a plinth base. Stamped ‘Edwards & Roberts’ to the upper left drawer.
In good solid condition and sympathetically cleaned and polished by hand using traditional materials. There are marks and signs of damage from age and some chips to the inside of the doors.
